“It is not for kings, O Lemuel, to guzzle wine. Rulers should not crave alcohol. For if they drink, they may forget the law and not give justice to the oppressed. Alcohol is for the dying, and wine for this in bitter distress. “ Proverbs 31:4-7 (NLT)
I’m not a king or a ruler. I am a mom and maybe that counts a little since I rule over my kids (sometimes anyway!). But I don’t think God intended these verses to be just for people in charge of countries.
These verses strongly warn of the dangers of alcohol, especially wine. We should not guzzle wine (oops!) or crave alcohol (uh oh!). Done and done. Fortunately, our God is a forgiving one. I was in bitter distress but He brought me through and gave me new life.
Our lives need not be ruled by alcohol or any other addiction. You can find healing in God and forgiveness for anything and everything. No sin is too big or too horrible for God to absolve you of it. Just ask Him. All you have to do is ask.
